What to expect at your first visit

A first dental appointment shouldn’t feel like a mystery. Here’s exactly how your visit to our West Abbotsford office will go, so you can walk in knowing what happens next.

Before you arrive

Once you book, we’ll send (or point you to) your new-patient and medical history forms. Filling these out in advance means less time in the waiting room and a head start on understanding your health. Bring your ID and insurance details, and we’ll handle the rest.

Your exam and conversation

Dr. Kalucha will review your history, examine your teeth, gums, and bite, take any needed X-rays, and check for early signs of decay, gum disease, and oral cancer. Just as important, he’ll listen: to what’s bothering you, what you’d like to improve, and any past experiences that made you anxious.

Your cleaning

When time and your oral health allow, you’ll have a cleaning with our hygienist at this first visit. If your gums need more focused care first, we’ll explain why and plan the right approach rather than rushing it.

Your personalized plan

Before you leave, you’ll know exactly where your oral health stands and what (if anything) needs attention. Any recommended treatment comes with a clear, written estimate and a review of how your insurance or CDCP coverage applies, so there are no surprises.

After your visit

We’ll book any follow-up care at your pace and set a reminder for your next checkup. You’re always welcome to call with questions between visits.

First-visit questions

How long does a first dental visit take?

Plan for about 60 to 90 minutes for your first visit. That gives us time for a thorough exam, any X-rays, a cleaning when appropriate, and a real conversation about your goals, without feeling rushed.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring a piece of photo ID, your dental insurance details, a list of any medications you take, and the name of your previous dentist if you’d like us to request records. Completing your forms ahead of time speeds up check-in.

Will I need X-rays at my first visit?

Usually yes, unless you have recent X-rays we can obtain from a previous dentist. X-rays let us see between and beneath teeth where problems hide, so we can catch issues early rather than later.

Do you see nervous or anxious patients?

Absolutely, and you won’t be judged. Tell us you’re nervous when you book and we’ll take extra time, explain everything, and agree on a signal you can use to pause anytime.
